Benign Fibrous Tumors
Desmoid Tumor (Fibromatosis)
A desmoid tumor is a type of growth that occurs in the soft tissues of the body, such as muscles or connective tissue. It’s considered a benign (non-cancerous) tumor, but it can be locally aggressive, meaning it can grow and invade nearby areas. Desmoid tumors can vary in size and might cause pain or discomfort, depending on their location. An accurate diagnosis is imperative to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
Elastofibroma
Elastofibroma is a rare, benign tumor that usually forms near the shoulder blade or rib cage. It's made up of a mix of elastic fibers and fibrous tissue. People with elastofibroma often don’t notice any symptoms, but some may experience discomfort or a feeling of fullness in the area. These tumors grow slowly and are usually discovered incidentally during imaging for other reasons. Surgery may be recommended for patients who experience pain or limitations in their range of motion. An accurate diagnosis is imperative to ensure the approproiate management of the lesion.
